General Practice services across the MidCentral district during COVID-19

Last updated on 18 May 2020

Your General Practice team is crucial to our national response to COVID-19 and is committed to keeping you well. General Practices will continue to operate as essential services. Below are details of their services and how they can look after your health and the health of your whānau.

Face-to-face consultations

General Practices are still open and offering full services. Please call or email your General Practice and your GP or nurse practitioner will advise you whether you can have services via the telephone, video or email, or whether you need to visit them in person. Please listen to their instructions about what to do. If you need to go to your practice, you may be greeted at the door and asked questions before coming into the practice – or you may be asked to go to a different entrance rather than the one you usually go to.

Your GP and nurse practitioner are doing fewer face-to-face consultations. Some General Practice teams were offering their customers a choice of telephone, email, video or in-person consultations prior to COVID-19. The benefits of 'non-contact' ways of communicating with General Practice through telephone or video consultations is now well embedded across New Zealand. Many people are appreciating that they can receive telephone, video or email services without needing to get transport to the General Practice, or take time off work.

General Practice charges can be different depending on the type of consultation you have. They will share this information with you, however, if you are unsure, please ask.

Connecting through your patient portal

Many General Practices offer a patient portal. These provide safe and secure ways to communicate with your General Practice and to have 24/7 access to your own information. If you are already connected to your own General Practice portal through the ManageMyHealth app or myIndici app, this is a great way to keep in touch.

Your General Practice team might add handy resources to your profile to help you find out more about and better manage your health. They may also provide you with a way to make payments to them securely through the portal. Take this time to get familiar about what you can do in your portal.
