MidCentral DHB Hospital Services during COVID-19
Last updated on 14 May 2020
Some changes to MidCentral DHB hospital services have been put in place because of COVID-19. Many appointments are now being done via phone or video consult (where appropriate) to minimise the need for people to travel to the hospital, and some non-urgent appointments have been postponed.
Palmerston North Hospital's emergency department is an essential service and will continue to run throughout all COVID-19 alert levels. If you are experiencing a health emergency and also have symptoms of COVID-19, it is important that you phone ahead so that staff can make the appropriate preparations to ensure your safety as well as the safety of other patients and staff in the emergency department.
There is a temporary triage area at the entry to allow for screening.
Appointments and procedures
We have some guidelines to help you decide whether you should attend your appointments or elective surgery.
Shuttle services will recommence on the 18 May by the same community providers. St John’s and Horowhenua Health Shuttles will be operating to support patient transport to and from Palmerston North Hospital but there will be reduced capacity due to the need to maintain physical distancing measures as required by the Ministry of Health. If you have any questions about Health Shuttles services, then please call Palmerston North Hospital and ask to be put through to the Patient Travel Service who will be able to assist.
