MidCentral DHB Hospital Services during COVID-19

Some changes to MidCentral DHB hospital services have been put in place because of COVID-19. Many appointments are now being done via phone or video consult (where appropriate) to minimise the need for people to travel to the hospital, and some non-urgent appointments have been postponed.

Emergency department

Palmerston North Hospital's emergency department is an essential service and will continue to run throughout all COVID-19 alert levels. If you are experiencing a health emergency and also have symptoms of COVID-19, it is important that you phone ahead so that staff can make the appropriate preparations to ensure your safety as well as the safety of other patients and staff in the emergency department.

Shuttle services

In Alert Level 4, most health shuttle services will be operating for life preserving services, including renal dialysis, urgent cancer services, urgent infusions etc. However, they may also have reduced capacity due to the need to maintain physical distancing measures as required by the Ministry of Health.  If you have any questions about Health Shuttles services, then please call Palmerston North Hospital and ask to be put through to the Patient Travel Service who will be able to assist.
