Donors who return to work on reduced hours
Returning to work on reduced hours before 17 November 2019
If you received compensation at any time under the Compensation for Live Organ Donors Act 2016 you may be eligible for payment of backdated compensation if you lost earnings during the 12 weeks following your surgery when:
- we stopped your compensation payments before the end of your approved compensation period because you returned to work on reduced hours, or
- you returned to work on your usual hours as planned, but then reduced your hours of work because you were feeling unwell after your surgery.
To apply for backdated compensation, complete the 'Application for compensation for return to work on reduced hours form. We will need documentation to support your application.

Returning to work on reduced hours after 17 November 2019
You may be eligible for some compensation for lost earnings if within 12 weeks of your surgery either:
- you return to work on reduced hours
- you return to work on your usual hours, but then reduce your hours because you are feeling unwell after your surgery.
If you did not plan to return to work on reduced hours when your compensation payments were approved, you will need to contact us at claimsmanagement@health.govt.nz
