Donors who return to work on reduced hours

The Organ Donors and Related Matters Act which commenced on 17 November 2019 provides for the payment of compensation to qualifying donors for loss of earnings when they return to work on reduced hours while recovering from surgery.

If you received compensation at any time under the Compensation for Live Organ Donors Act 2016 you may be eligible for payment of backdated compensation if you lost earnings during the 12 weeks following your surgery when:

  • we stopped your compensation payments before the end of your approved compensation period because you returned to work on reduced hours, or
  • you returned to work on your usual hours as planned, but then reduced your hours of work because you were feeling unwell after your surgery.
