Rural telehealth care — Ka Ora Telecare
Ka Ora Telecare is an after hours telehealth (video and phone) service for people living or visiting rural communities across Aotearoa New Zealand. You do not need to be enrolled with a healthcare provider to use the service.
Opening hours
The service operates:
- 5pm to 8am during weekdays
- 24 hours during weekends and on public holidays.
Using the service
To use the service you can call or book an appointment online.
Call
Available during all opening hours.
You will speak to a kaiawhina (support person) or a nurse who will assess your health needs.
You can then either:
- see a clinician straight away
- choose to schedule an appointment later in the evening.

- 8am to 10pm weekends and public holidays.
This is a scheduled appointment to talk with the medical team by phone or video call.

Urgent appointments
For urgent appointments after 10pm, call 0800 252 672 (0800 2 KA ORA).
Appointment charges
No charge
There is no charge for:
- a kaiawhina (support person) or nurse consultation.
- tamariki (children) aged under 14 years.
Appointment charges
For people aged 14 to 65 - there is a charge for seeing a clinician.
For people with a Community Services Card or who are over 65 years - there is a reduced charge.
